Many
times I find some leading personalities, from different walks of life,
try to find convergence between science and spirituality. I find, these
two are quite divergent.
The
origin of science lies in knowing about the laws that govern matter and
energy. These laws are learned through theoretical and expermental
investigation. In fact, in science, no law is accepted until it is
proved by experimental investigations. Thus it could be stated that
science is 'objective'.
On the other hand, spirituality aims at realisation of self (atmadnyaana). All world religions accept the existence of soul (atman),
names and approaches may differ. The spiritual experiences are a result
of spiritual practice and are limited to the individual. The experience
of one individual may differ from that of the other. Thus sprituality
and the spiritual experiences are 'subjective'.
The
scientific experience is 'physical' but the spiritual experience is
'metaphysical'. Explaining spiritualism on the basis of scientific
principles can only give us limited understanding. The spirituality goes
beyond the realm of science.
